David Mellor Design operates on the simple principle that well designed tableware is a vital part of any interior.

The company was set up by David Mellor, Royal Designer for Industry, in the 1950s. The first and now famous David Mellor shop opened in Sloane Square, London, in 1969 and soon became a focal point of Swinging Sixties Chelsea and remains one of London’s most original and individual shops.

We run our own design office within the company and so the David Mellor collection is constantly evolving. Many of our products are designed by Corin Mellor, Creative Director, exclusively for the David Mellor shops and are produced by specially selected workshop producers and manufacturers.

David Mellor now holds one of the most impressive collections of the finest British Crafts and sophisticated modern tableware and kitchenware, including the world famous David Mellor Cutlery, to be found on the international scene.

Wooden items used for serving or preparing food should be washed under running water. They should never be immersed in water or washed in a dishwasher, as soaking may cause the wood to warp or split.

Wooden items should be dried immediately with a towel, not left to drain.

To maintain the condition of wooden items, a small quantity of edible oil may be rubbed into the wood.

Wooden items should be kept away from sources of heat and bright sunlight as these may cause the wood to warp.

Due to their construction, end-grain boards can warp slightly during use. This can be caused by uneven drying, humidity and differences in temperatures. To avoid this we recommend turning the board on a regular basis to use both sides evenly.

If warping does occur please turn over the board so that the convex side is facing upwards (so it is resting on the 4 corners and the middle of the board is raised off the surface), the board should then straighten over the course of a day or two.
