Embassy stainless steel

Embassy stainless steel

David Mellor’s most magnificent cutlery was originally commissioned in 1963 by the British government for use in British embassies with the aim of demonstrating the best of modern British design.

The commission incorporated a whole range of silver tableware including Mellor’s famous Embassy teapot, Embassy candlesticks and Embassy toast rack. The Embassy range was extremely well received and received a Design Council Award, being judged ‘the best of its kind that has been produced in this country for many years’.

Conceived on a grand scale, Embassy cutlery encapsulates Mellor’s characteristic flair in the highly original shaping of the knife handle, tapered forms and exceptional elegance of the 3-prong fork. It is a design of striking splendour.

Embassy is now being made to the original design in mirror polished stainless steel. Each piece is hand finished individually with a ‘DM’ maker’s mark.

Embassy is still being made for us in sterling silver by specialist Sheffield maker Fletcher Robinson to special order. Each piece of David Mellor sterling silver cutlery is handmade specially for each customer and individually hallmarked by the Sheffield Assay Office. Please contact us for more information.

Knife blades are made from high carbon stainless steel for a superior cutting edge.
